David O. Barrett
President and CEO
David O. Barrett, 42, is president and chief executive officer of the Gene B. Glick Company, one of the largest privately held real estate management and development firms in the United States. Founded in 1947 in Indianapolis, the Gene B. Glick Company manages nearly 19,000 apartment units in 10 states throughout the Midwest and Eastern U.S. and operates and invests in a number of real estate and related businesses.
Prior to joining the company in 2007, Barrett served as vice president–corporate counsel and assistant secretary at Emmis Communications Corporation, a diversified media company based in Indianapolis. Prior to joining Emmis in 1999, he practiced law in Indianapolis at Ice Miller, where he concentrated his practice in corporate law, business transactions and media law. He represented a number of public and private companies, including radio and television broadcasters and various sports and entertainment clients. He also served as counsel to the Indiana Broadcasters Association from 1996-1999.
Barrett is active in the Indianapolis community and has served on a number of boards of charitable and civic agencies. He serves as president, chief executive officer and a director of the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Family Foundation and the Gene B. Glick Family Housing Foundation. He is also an advisor to The Glick Fund of the Central Indiana Community Foundation. He sits on the Board of Directors of Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc. and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Center for Real Estate Studies at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. He is a member of the Indiana Builders Association, the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis, the Indiana Apartment Association and the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. He has also served on the Advisory Board of the Indiana Economic Development Commission and accompanied Gov. Mitch Daniels on a trade mission to Tokyo, Japan.
He is admitted to the bars of the State of Indiana, the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He received his J.D. cum laude in 1995 from Indiana University School of Law – Bloomington where he served on the Board of Editors of the Indiana Law Journal and was elected to the Order of Barristers. He received a B.A. in journalism and political science from Indiana University in 1992.
Chad Greiwe
Executive Vice President, Operations
Chad Greiwe has primary responsibility for strategic planning and oversight for the Operations Division which includes Property Management, Information Technology, Purchasing, Maintenance Operations and Operations Support. Prior to 2013, Chad had oversight of the company’s accounting and financial operations. He is a certified public accountant and a member of the Indiana Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He earned his accounting degree from Indiana University. Greiwe sits on the board of directors for Connect2Help and serves on its finance committee.
Dean A. Donnelson
Executive Vice President, Real Estate and Development
Dean Donnelson joined the Company in 1992 and is currently responsible for generating acquisition and development opportunities for the company and has primary strategic planning and oversight of the Real Estate Division, which includes Asset Management, Construction, and Real Estate Tax Consultants. He also serves as the secretary and advisor for the Gene B. Glick Family Housing Foundation, Inc., an Indiana not-for-profit dedicated to preserving low income housing. He was previously senior VP of asset management for the company.
Prior to his career with Glick, Donnelson was a senior vice president with Oxford Development Corporation, specializing in real estate finance transactions. At Oxford he was responsible for over a billion dollars in debt and equity raised. Prior to joining Oxford, he was a tax attorney for Bingham, Summers, Welsh and Spilman and was a senior tax accountant for Arthur Andersen. Donnelson received his J.D. from Indiana University and is a certified public accountant.
Anita S. Smith
Executive Vice President, CFO and Treasurer
Anita Smith joined the company in 1983 after working on the company audit for three years while employed with Ernst & Whinney. Smith has executive oversight of our Corporate Division, including Accounting, Human Resources, Legal, Insurance and Investments. She began her career as an accountant for Indiana Florida Realty Trust and Ampe Realty Management. Prior to her current position as Executive Vice President of our Corporate Division she held the positions of construction and development division controller, corporate controller, vice president of corporate accounting, and senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer.
Smith is an executive director of the Eugene & Marilyn Glick Family Foundation and serves as its treasurer and chief financial officer. She also serves as treasurer for the Gene B. Glick Family Housing Foundation. She is a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. She is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Indiana Society of Certified Public Accountants.
