Funds will help elderly and disabled residents continue to live independently

Residents at 22 apartment communities owned and managed by the Gene B. Glick Company will now enjoy greater access to essential services thanks to $5.1 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HUD announced the grants as part of its Multifamily Housing Service Coordinator Program.

Located in Indiana, Georgia, Kentucky and Virginia, the 22 government-subsidized communities provide homes for elderly and disabled residents. The grants will enable the hiring of one Service Coordinator for each community and will fund the positions for an initial three-year period, as well as provide for associated expenses.

Service Coordinators are responsible for assuring that elderly and disabled residents, especially those who are frail or at-risk, are linked to the specific supportive services they need to continue living independently in their own apartment homes. Service Coordinators will assess their needs and connect them to resources such as medical screenings, financial counseling, energy assistance, nutrition programs, and transportation.

“This is the second year in a row that Glick properties have been awarded these valuable grants,” said David Barrett, president and CEO of the Gene B. Glick Company. “We have a long history of helping our elderly and disabled residents get the services they need to thrive. These grants will allow us to do that in a much more meaningful and comprehensive way. We’re grateful for HUD’s ongoing commitment to this program.”

Luxury Zionsville community adding green “rain gardens” and 66 units

The Gene B. Glick Company began construction this week on Phase II of Westhaven Apartments, its 182-unit luxury community located off S.R. 334, just east of I-65 in Zionsville, Ind.

The expansion includes three resident buildings with new 66 total units. New apartments will be a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes. Each resident building will have five attached garages and 10 storage spaces.

Phase II construction will also add a bark park, two free-standing garage structures with a total of 16 separate garages, a self-serve car wash facility, and two “rain gardens.” The rain gardens will collect storm-water runoff and reduce the flow into nearby lakes and streams. Landscaped with native plants, the gardens are designed to filter impurities and improve the quality of rain runoff.

New units will be available for occupancy in November, and the entire project will be complete in January 2012. For more information on Westhaven, visit www.findyourhaven.com or call (866) 440-5748.

A partnership led by the Gene B. No purchase price was disclosed.

Located at 530 East Ohio Street in the emerging Cole Noble District, The Maxwell is a five-story, contemporary art-deco building with 105 luxury apartment units and 11,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space. It features a courtyard garden, dramatic views of the downtown area and an underground parking garage.

Built in 2008, the project was originally designed as condominiums. The Maxwell’s apartment homes include high-end finishes such as granite countertops, hardwood floors and stainless-steel appliances. Floor plans include studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments; rents start at $815 per month.

The Gene B. Glick Company will be the general partner and manager of the property; Milhaus will be responsible for leasing and converting the first floor into office and retail uses. The Maxwell maintains nearly 100 percent residential occupancy. Glick is currently renovating and converting existing office space in the building to five additional apartment units, which will be available for new residents in January.

“Glick has built and managed housing in Indianapolis for a long time, but this is our first property in the downtown area,” said David Barrett, Glick president and CEO. “The Maxwell is one of the city’s premier addresses and a perfect fit for our growing portfolio of luxury communities.”

Glick has been a leader in the apartment market nationally for many years and recently has
In the last two years, it has purchased Somerset Lakes Apartments in Indianapolis and developed Westhaven, a new luxury apartment community in Zionsville, Ind.

“This is a tremendous asset with great long-term ownership benefits,” said Greg Martin, vice president of development at Milhaus. “It represents the high-end properties we are working toward developing in many cities across the country. We’re very excited about the relationship with the Gene B.
The Gene B. Glick Company announced today that construction for phase two is underway at Spring Mill Self Storage, located on S.R. 32, just west of Spring Mill Road in Westfield, Ind. The 63,000-square-foot property will gain 103 new units, 65 of which will be climate controlled.

The first phase of construction was completed in 2009 and encompassed 419 units (with 85 climate-controlled spaces), plus 43 surface parking spaces for RVs, cars, and boats. When current construction is complete in January 2011, the facility will include 522 units, ranging from 5’ x 5’ closet-size spaces to 15’ x 30’ units. Spring Mill Self Storage offers online reservations at www.springmillselfstorage.com, 24-hour key pad access, temperature and humidity controlled units, a 24-hour service kiosk, and the latest security features.

Residents at seven apartment communities owned and managed by the Gene B. Glick Company will now enjoy greater access to essential services thanks to $1.6 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Located in Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan, the seven government-subsidized communities provide homes for elderly and disabled residents. The grants will enable the hiring of one Service Coordinator for each community and will fund the positions for an initial three-year period, as well as provide for associated expenses. The company expects to hire these new employees within 90 days.

Service Coordinators will help residents live independently for as long as possible by assessing their needs and connecting them to resources such as medical screenings, financial counseling, energy assistance, nutrition programs, and transportation.

“Residents in these communities are often frail and at-risk,” said David Barrett, president and CEO of the Gene B. Glick Company. “Our employees already do a wonderful job in directing needed services to our residents, but these federal grants will help us do that in a much more comprehensive way.”

HUD announced the Glick grants as part of a $32.7 million nationwide program. “We are continually looking for ways to enhance our communities and improve the lives of our residents,” said Barrett. “We appreciate HUD’s ongoing commitment to improving the quality of affordable housing in the Midwest and throughout the U.S.”

Glick is one of only two management companies to be awarded a Service Coordinator grant in Indiana and in Kentucky. The following Glick communities received a grant:
