I am deeply troubled and distressed by the senseless murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the ensuing unrest in communities across America and the world. We know that the message of these demonstrations is, simply, that there have been far too many tragic and avoidable deaths of African Americans and other minorities in our country. I want you to know this: Glick rejects racism and denounces violence in all forms. As one of the nation’s largest multifamily housing providers, we are committed to using our privilege and position to advance solutions for a more equitable and just society. Through Glick Philanthropies, we have invested in strategies to dismantle systemic racism, including promoting criminal justice reform through support of The Bail Project, protecting constitutional rights through the work of the American Civil Liberties Union, and partnering with neighborhoods that deserve additional support, including the Far Eastside of Indianapolis. In the coming days and weeks, we will announce additional efforts to combat racial and economic disparities as we continue our work to build community and create opportunity. As a white man, I do not know the Black or Brown experience, but I do know this: ending systemic racism is the challenge of our lifetimes. As our colleagues and residents of color can attest, progress is long overdue. It is a challenge I accept, and I hope you will join me in this effort by standing with them in honoring George Floyd and the countless others who’ve lost their lives and liberties and in calling for peaceful, inclusive action to bring about lasting change.
