Selflessly

Our Commitment

As one of the nation’s largest family-owned real estate development, ownership and management firms, the Gene B. Glick Company is committed to giving back in the communities that we call home. Through our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, we invest in our team members, residents, and the communities we serve in order to build value for people and places.

Empowering Team Member Giving

One of Glick’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) goals is to strengthen the quality of life in the communities we serve. Glick team members consistently give back to their communities through volunteering and charitable donations. All Glick team members receive eight hours of paid volunteer time off (VTO) each year. To date, team members have volunteered more than 18,000 hours. Many team members go above and beyond by regularly volunteering with community organizations outside of work too.

To empower team member giving, Glick Gives matches qualified charitable contributions from Glick team members to nonprofit organizations. Contributions are matched dollar-for-dollar by the Glick Gives Fund at the Central Indiana Community Foundation. The Glick Gives program offers the opportunity for team members to support the causes they care about in the communities where they live and work. To date, the Glick Gives program has contributed more than $1 million to charitable causes through team member donations, matching support, and impact dollars directed at key service milestones.

Glick team members can log volunteer efforts and request a contribution match by logging into Selflessly, a CSR engagement platform.

Glick Education Awards

In 2019, we launched the Glick Education Awards to support the dependents of Gene B. Glick Company team members who are pursuing postsecondary education to lessen the financial burden on families. Since 2020, we have awarded over $700,000 to 103 recipients, with awards ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. The recipients are pursuing postsecondary credentials at a variety of colleges and universities as well as technical, vocational, and trade schools across the country.

“The Glick Education Award has helped me get one step closer to my educational goals. College tuition is more than me or my mom could ever afford to pay on our own. The scholarship helped relieve some of the financial burden for my mom and has allowed me to concentrate on my classes instead of trying to figure out how I can help pay for my education. The scholarship didn’t just help me; it helped my mom.” – Glick Education Award Recipient

Glick Relief Fund

The Glick Relief Fund was created to help Glick team members experiencing financial hardships immediately after an unforeseen personal event or natural disaster. The Fund considers the employee’s spouse, minor children, and other dependents for whom the employee is financially responsible as eligible dependents. Since 2020, more than $270,000 has been granted to help team members.

Glick Loan Program

The Glick Loan Program helps team members access funds to cover unexpected financial emergencies. Team members with at least one year of employment are eligible to apply. Since 2020, Glick team members have accessed over 550 loans totaling more than $1.5 million to bridge financial hardships.

Service Coordination

In 2020, Glick’s Service Coordination program celebrated its 10th anniversary. When we started this initiative over a decade ago, it was among the first of its kind, and the need to support our most vulnerable residents was clear.

People from myriad walks of life call Glick communities home. Through dedicated Service Coordinators, we meet residents where they are with targeted support, from ensuring formerly homeless veterans have a sense of community to helping displaced workers find employment.

With more than 70 Service Coordinators, we have built one of the largest and most effective programs in the country. Over the past decade, our Service Coordinators have assisted more than 50,000 residents to age in place, maintain tenancy, build an informal network of support and secure employment. We’ve helped residents obtain benefits and supports totaling more than $110 million in cost savings. We also offer more than 75 onsite food programs across the country, including emergency food pantries, congregate meals and community gardens. Our Service Coordination program is one of the defining characteristics of Glick communities – an asset we’re proud to celebrate.

Housing Our Heroes

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development estimates that over 40,000 veterans experience homelessness on a given night. While only 7% of the U.S. population claims veteran status, 13% of the adult homeless population are veterans, according to the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans.

Guided by Gene B. Glick’s legacy of helping fellow soldiers and a commitment to making affordable housing accessible, the Glick Housing Foundation piloted a program called “Housing Our Heroes” with 23 apartment homes. The program aims to increase the number of military veterans accessing affordable housing and wraparound services in Indianapolis, including the support of a dedicated Service Coordinator.

Food Drive
Glick Food Drive

Each year, the Glick team looks forward to hosting our annual food drive to benefit nonprofit organizations in communities where Glick apartments are located. Since the initiative was launched in 2015, Glick has distributed nearly 100,000 canned food items and awarded more than $80,000 to nonprofits providing food access to Glick residents and the boarder community.
