
Celebrating Earth Day in Our Communities
Since 1970, Earth Day has served as an annual reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve our planet. This year marks the 55th anniversary of a day that has inspired worldwide celebrations and a call to action to think deeply about the role we all play in taking care of the environment.
Regardless of where you reside in the world, there’s an opportunity for everyone to better the environment on April 22. Take a look at the list below to explore how you can get informed and make a difference in your community.
Florida
- Fort Lauderdale: Eat, drink and shop locally at the Earth Day Market Flow featuring local artisans, farm-fresh food, yoga and live music on April 19.
- Miami: Bring the entire family to HistoryMiami Museum’s Free Family Fun Day and learn more about the unique ecosystems of South Florida, examine native wildlife at the fauna discovery table and participate in various craft activities on April 12.
- Miami: Join Miami Waterkeeper and other community members at the 3rd annual Earth Day Clean-up on April 19. The event will begin with a beach yoga session led by Latino Outdoors and followed up with a marine debris clean-up at Historic Virgina Key Beach Park.
Georgia
- Atlanta: Wear green and show your love for the planet while running in the 2025 Earth Day Run on April 19. All participants can sign up to run a 5K, 10K or half-marathon and a portion of all proceeds will support tree planting in the local Atlanta community.
- Atlanta: Peruse creations from local vendors and artists at Cryptid Creative’s Earth Day Fest: Pop-Up Market and Celebration on Saturday, April 19.
- Atlanta: Stroll through the Atlanta Botanical Garden for a special Earth Day on April 22. Enjoy fun activities such as the Georgia wildlife scavenger hunt and special performances of Music of Latin America with Havana Son.
- Savannah: Promote eco-friendly practices at Daffin Park for the 25th annual Earth Day Savannah celebration on April 25. Expect fun for the whole family and a wonderful selection of earth-friendly local vendors.
Kentucky
- Bowling Green: Dive into the green scene during Lost River Cave’s week of eco-adventures of activities like yoga, invasive plant pulling, hiking and a meadow restoration project.
- Lexington: Register the whole family to volunteer for an hour to help improve the habitat at McConnell Springs on April 22.
- Louisville: Show support for conservation efforts in Kentucky through attending the second annual Earth Day Fest on April 18. Bring your friends and enjoy live music, food, trivia and community vendors.
- Louisville: Join the Waterfront Botanical Gardens for a day of community, conservation and celebration on April 22. Whether you’d like to start your day with a peaceful stroll in nature or dive into the world of sustainable beekeeping, there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
Illinois
- Chicago: Looking for an interactive activity to celebrate Earth Day? The Chicago Public Library is hosting a Family Fun Day for families with kids ages 3 -13 on April 21. Kids will get in the spirit of Earth Day by participating in a hands-on nature science activity.
- Chicago: Join a citywide Earth Day Parks Clean Up hosted by Chicago Park District in collaboration with Friends of the Parks. On April 26, community members are invited to join thousands in parks across Chicago to pick up litter, put down mulch and spend some time taking care of the city’s green spaces.
- Decatur: Welcome spring with the whole family at Macon County’s Conservation District’s Festival of Spring hosted by Rock Springs Nature Center and Conservation Area on April 26. Join a knowledgeable Audubon guide for a Spring Migration Walk, make a difference by partaking in a river cleanup or enjoy an afternoon wagon ride.
- Springfield: Attend the 32nd Annual Earth Awareness Fair on April 20. Honor our planet and participate in a variety of fun activities, games and crafting stations.
Indiana
- Bloomington: Join the City of Bloomington for their third annual Earth Day event at Switchyard Park on April 19. Enjoy live music, food and drink, local vendors and tree giveaways!
- Carmel: Explore all of the incredible ways that the Cool Creek Nature Center is working to protect our environment by attending the Earth Day Open House on April 19! The nature center will be providing fun crafts, guided hikes, native trees for sale and seed packets.
- Fort Wayne: Learn more about conservation efforts in your community, channel your creativity with hands-on crafts, and shop locally made goods from eco-conscious vendors at Earth Day Fort Wayne on April 27.
- Indianapolis: Take advantage of half-off ticket discounts for admission to the Indianapolis Zoo on April 22. Spend the afternoon learning about how our zoo is working to protect wildlife all around the globe.
- Indianapolis: Volunteer with the Aspire House Indianapolis on April 22 to build solar powered streetscapes on Udell & Radar Streets.
- Muncie: Get involved in your community and join the Red-Tail Land Conservancy for a family-friendly Earth Day Tree Planting on April 19.
Missouri
- Jefferson City: Get informed on all of the proactive conservation efforts of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources at their Earth Day celebration event on April 25. The event features hands-on educational activities and displays to show how individuals can improve the planet.
- St. Louis: Keep the festivities going all weekend long at the St. Louis Earth Day Festival on April 26 and 27. This community tradition offers attendees unlimited ways to enjoy sustainable products and services from local businesses, live entertainment and a variety of food offerings from local green dining alliance restaurants.
- Springfield: Enjoy live music and support local environmental organizations at Springfield’s Earth Day Music and Sustainability Festival on April 26. Ticket proceeds will benefit organizations in the community working to protect the environment.
North Carolina
- Charlotte: Foster more community ties at the Charlotte Earth Day Celebration on April 12. The community’s largest annual Earth Day event invites attendees to participate in fun educational activities and connect with environmentally conscious organizations in the area.
- Durham: Honor the planet at the annual Durham Earth Day Festival on April 27. Browse hand-made goods from a collection of environmentally friendly businesses at the Earth Day Market, stop by the bike mechanic tent to get your bike checked out and enjoy activities for younger community members at the family fun zone.
- Greensboro: Learn how to make each day more eco-friendly during the City of Greensboro’s Earth Day celebration on April 26. Immerse yourself in nature with a guided nature walk, learn something new at a sustainable living mini workshop and interact with animals at this year’s event at Keeley Park.
Ohio
- Cincinnati: Join the Earth Day celebration on April 26 with this year’s theme being “our power, our planet.” Learn more about the world around you, enjoy live music and purchase goods from local vendors.
