Celebrating National Senior Citizens Day

“Throughout our history, older people have achieved much for our families, our communities, and our country. That remains true today and gives us ample reason this year to reserve a special day in honor of the senior citizens who mean so much to our land. For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute. We can best demonstrate our gratitude and esteem by making sure that our communities are good places in which to mature and grow older — places in which older people can participate to the fullest and can find the encouragement, acceptance, assistance, and services they need to continue to lead lives of independence and dignity.” – President Ronald Reagan

August 21 serves as a day of recognition and gratitude for the senior citizens who have spent their lives positively contributing to society. In honor of National Senior Citizens Day, we want to celebrate a few of the outstanding senior residents that are a part of our Glick family. The residents below were nominated by property teams to be recognized.

Evelyn Rhodes – The Meetinghouse at Milwaukee

Our Meetinghouse staff nominated Evelyn because she is our daily dose of sunshine! She always has a smile on her face and greets everyone in the community with respect and positivity. Evelyn has lived at The Meetinghouse since 2018, two years before Glick’s acquisition in March 2020. She has been the perfect example of someone who has kept a positive outlook, even during a management transition and a global pandemic. Evelyn teaches us every day that there is good in the world, and we are happy to have her as part of our community!

A note from Evelyn:
I am very pleased with the services and accommodations that are provided by Meetinghouse. The staff here is a great team working in harmony. Thank you, Meetinghouse staff, for your professional courtesy and attitude. To Paul, for your timely attention to serving concerns, always with a smile. Kate, I could not ask for a better manager – smiles, humor and getting the job done. Shamira (Sunshine), you bring sunshine to the front office. Your smile represents the Meetinghouse, and I couldn’t ask for a better first impression. And Brittney, thanks for your assistance with the needs of the tenets.

Janice Tatlock – Jamestown Apartments

Janice Tatlock has been a resident of Jamestown of Seymour since 2008. She is committed not only to her own family but also to helping residents of our entire community. We can always count on Jan to volunteer whenever we have an event, especially when it comes to helping us with our property’s monthly food pantry. The food pantry has allowed us to serve the needs of our residents who need food assistance but have no way to travel to the local pantries. Not only does Jan help unload, sort and distribute food, she helps us deliver food to those who cannot attend the pantry and those who need help getting their food back to their apartments.

In addition, Jan is raising her 10-year-old great-grandson, Teddy, who is a wonderful young man. Like his grandmother, Teddy volunteers when he can at the food pantry. Jan and Teddy attend all our community events and encourage their neighbors to join. All of us, as well as the other residents of the property, are indebted to Jan for her service of helping her neighbors.

A note from Jan:
“I’ve been here for 15 years. I’ve raised my granddaughter and now my great-grandson here. This place is like a family. From day one, I’ve been treated with respect and like I belong, not only by the office staff but also by maintenance. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. You would have to live here to get just how great it is. They started a food drive for all of us, and they let me help out. Sometimes I just go to the office to talk about nothing, and the girls always listen. Like I said, it’s like a family.”

From all of us at Glick, we want to recognize all the wonderful senior citizens who have achieved so much for our families, our communities and our country. Our company was born out of Gene’s desire to help his fellow GIs build homes for their families. Our senior communities continue to be places where older individuals can find a home and be surrounded by a community filled with encouragement, acceptance, assistance and services, allowing them to live life to the fullest.
