Glick at 75: Rounding the Corner on a Century of Excellence
A new year always brings new opportunities to set and achieve ambitious goals for ourselves and for our company. But in 2022, the possibilities are even more exciting as our company celebrates our 75th anniversary.
Gene and Marilyn Glick had a big year back in 1947. They launched this company – and got married. In just 15 years, Glick became the largest single-family home builder in Indiana. And in the early ’60s, they began to conquer the multi-family housing market – a strategic decision that allowed Glick to flourish into one of the largest privately held real estate ownership, development, and management firms in the U.S., a fact that remains true to this day.
Importantly, Gene and Marilyn understood that to do well, we must also do good for the residents and communities we serve. In the early 1980s, they established the Glick Family Foundation to guide their philanthropic work in Central Indiana and beyond. Since then, Glick Philanthropies has awarded over $280 million to charitable causes that help build community and create opportunity in central Indiana and the locations where Glick operates.
Gene and Marilyn’s values are also reflected in our commitment to corporate social responsibility. We seek to not only create transformational opportunities for our residents, but also strengthen the quality of life in the communities we serve. From hosting food drives and collecting school supplies, to local volunteerism and collaborations with nonprofit organizations, our team members contribute their time, talents and treasure to making our communities better places to live and grow.
This year marks 12 years since we began our Service Coordination program, which provides residents with targeted support beyond a roof over their heads. Since 2010, we’ve helped over 50,000 residents receive benefits and supports totaling more than $110 million in cost savings.
Although 1947 is long past, many of society’s challenges remain. But as I reflect on Gene and Marilyn’s legacy, there’s one thing I know: There is little we can’t do when we come together. Our business is family, and through our commitment to excellence, to caring for our team members and residents, and to serving our communities, we’ve accomplished a great deal over the last 75 years. As we look to the future, our core message holds true: Glick is “Built to be Home.”
