Glick Cares Spruces Up Camp Dellwood

One of the largest camps in the Indianapolis area is getting spruced up before hundreds of girls take over the property this summer.

Camp Dellwood, located at 7201 Girl Scout Lane, is a wooded oasis on the west side of Indianapolis with more than 140 acres of hiking trails, streams, meadows and forests.

“Camp Dellwood serves around six thousand girls grades kindergarten through 12th grade each year,” said Girl Scouts of Central Indiana External Relationships Manager Megan Phillips. “Even though we’re gearing up right now for summer camp, this property is used year-round for different activities like our STEM camps that focus on science and technology.”

With summer camp coming — full of hiking, archery, swimming and camping — Phillips welcomed the helping hands of the Glick Cares team.

On Saturday, May 19, the Glick Cares team of 35 employees and their families spent the morning at Camp Dellwood, clearing up hiking trails, removing brush and debris as well as completing other outdoor maintenance projects to get the space ready for the campers.

“This work is not only going to prepare Camp Dellwood for summer camp, but it’s going to help the property for the long haul,” Phillips said.

“We want to volunteer with organizations that are both impactful to our Glick employees and also align with our Corporate Social Responsibility core value for the Gene B. Glick Company,” said Glick Philanthropies Community Impact Coordinator Ben Grande. “Working with Girl Scouts satisfies both of those goals. A lot of our employees have daughters or granddaughters in Girl Scouts, and volunteering at Camp Dellwood is a great way for us to give back to an organization that’s so important to our employees.”

Day camp at Camp Dellwood is an experience for girls to meet during the day Monday through Friday and have outdoor adventures. They swim, sing, take part in STEM activities, play games and much more. There’s also the option for spending the night on Thursday night.

“Girls today spend too much time indoors behind screens, so it’s great to be able to promote the opportunity to be outside and enjoy nature,” Grande said. “It gives girls the chance to meet new people, make new friends and try some outdoor activities they might not normally try. We love the fact we are helping make this possible for girls throughout the area. Plus, we enjoy volunteering with other Glick team members outside the workplace.”

“We really appreciate the Glick Cares team and the importance they place on giving back to the community,” Phillips said. “It takes a lot of hands putting in the work to get this place ready, and we are so grateful for their partnership.”

“Camp Dellwood has exclusively been a Girl Scout camp for more than 90 years, and we want to make sure it’s going to be around for another 90 years,” Phillips said. “That’s why help from the Glick Cares team is so important. It ensures we are paying attention to the nuances of camp and making sure the grounds and facilities continue to be well-maintained — and that campers can continue to enjoy it for years to come.”
