Glick Celebrates Giving Tuesday
Giving Tuesday is a celebrated global effort to empower people and organizations to better the world with selflessness and generosity. It falls on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and is frequently considered a kick-off to one of the most generous times of the year. Glick and its team members have long participated in this international day of philanthropy, and 2023 was no exception.
This year, team members supported organizations and causes with time and charitable contributions through Glick’s corporate social responsibility platform, Selflessly. And to boost the giving, Glick Gives offered a 3-to-1 match on all team member contributions.
The kindness and generosity of Glick team members led to a total impact of $106,516, giving back to more than 60 nonprofit organizations. A full list of the organizations supported by team members on Giving Tuesday can be found below.
Thank you to the team members who continue to give back, make our communities better places to live and remind us to care for one another this holiday season.
Here are three stories from team members who participated in Giving Tuesday:
Janine Betsey
Janine, Tax Credit Operations Director, makes it a goal to save up for gifting during the holiday season, and a motivator for her is the Glick match. “It has encouraged me to save for and better plan my donations to maximize my gifts,” she says.
Janine spread the love this year, donating to nine organizations in total. She focuses her efforts on nonprofits whose story or mission has had a substantial impact on her life. Some of these include Intend Indiana, You Yes You Project, Partners in Housing, and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
While all these nonprofits are important to her, St. Jude Children’s Hospital’s research and treatment facility is especially near to her heart. “I give to them in honor of my daughter Carmela, who passed away at age 7 and received treatment at St. Jude. My hope is to support their research so other children can live life to their fullest potential.”
Ashwathi Thekkeurumbil
Digital Media Specialist Ashwathi’s desire to help others drives her participation in Giving Tuesday. Ashwathi believes “every small bit counts and together we can make a big impact.”
Ashwathi donated this year to Gleaners Food Bank, one of the largest organizations in Indianapolis providing nourishing meals to those in need in Indiana. They have multiple ways for volunteers to help, including their mobile food pantries, home deliveries, Gleaners2Go, their on-site food pantry, and the Community Cupboard. She goes on to say, “I believe everyone should have access to adequate, nutritious food.”
She feels empowered by the Glick Gives matching contribution and the offering of Volunteer Time Off (VTO) hours for all team members to volunteer at an organization of their choice.
Myra Mellencamp
Myra, Property Manager at Jamestown Apartments of Seymour, donated to the Jackson County Chapter of the Salvation Army. She values the Salvation Army’s mission to help people with essentials that might get overlooked throughout the year.
“The Salvation Army helps people with needs that are not met by other organizations, such as money for work shoes so a person can get a job, a gas card for a person with a medical appointment in another city, and the last portion of rent or a utility bill,” she says, “These are just a few of the needs they meet each year.”
Myra is thrilled by the Glick Gives Giving Tuesday match and the encouragement team members receive to take advantage of the wonderful opportunity.
