Glick Employee Spotlight: Daryl Fischer

The Gene B. Glick Company is honored to have such hard-working, dedicated employees, and we are proud to recognize these individuals in a monthly employee spotlight!

Q: What is your title at the Gene B. Glick Company?
A: Regional Maintenance Manager

Q: How long have you been with the company?
A: In March 2020, I will have been with Glick for 12 years.

Q: Have you had any other positions with the company?
A: Yes, I started at Woodbridge Bloomington as a MT and was promoted to AMS under Brad Hobbs. From there, I applied for and got the position of MS at CS Bedford. Not long after Brad was promoted to RMM (or MOM at the time), I returned to Woodbridge as the MS there and remained there until my promotion to RMM.

Q: What has kept you here?
A: I’ve stayed with Glick because of the wonderful family atmosphere of the company and the great advancement opportunities I have been afforded.

Q: How did you make your way into this industry?
A: I come from a strong construction background as a carpenter. This gave me knowledge of building codes and most other building trades including electrical and plumbing. I also was given opportunities as project supervisor on some commercial building projects, giving me knowledge to meet deadline and reporting progress, also ensuring my crew and the other sub-contractors were meeting their obligations as well as ordering materials in time to be delivered on site as needed to maintain workflow.

Q: What do you do in your role?
A: The RMMs are a support role. We are tasked with assisting the onsite staff and RPMs with any maintenance-related issues that arise, whether emergencies or otherwise. Through inspections and site visits, we ensure the properties are being well maintained and safe by pointing out problem areas to the staff. For the new MSs, we are here to mentor, empower and help keep them on track for success. We are also their advocates, helping to get priority budget items approved.

Q: What part(s) of your job do you like the most?
A: I would have to say the travel, especially when I’m driving and get to see different areas of the country. Also, when I can help someone resolve an issue that was stressful for them and I see their relief, that’s right up there, too.

Q: What has surprised you the most about working at Glick?
A: To me, the company’s commitment to employee success and well-being is just amazing. Whether it’s the training provided, the leadership conference, the holiday luncheon, employee appreciation week or just a quick note of recognition, Glick really strives to enhance everyone's experience.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I like to travel with my girlfriend when possible; otherwise, I like to ride my motorcycle.

Q: What would surprise Glick team members about you?
A: I am somewhat of an artist, although I don’t find much time to work it. The last project I completed was airbrushing an old Ironhead Harley I rebuilt.

Q: If you won the lottery and didn’t have to worry about money, how would you fill your time (e.g., dream job, hobbies, causes)?
A: Traveling the world learning about different cultures, becoming a helicopter pilot, learning to play guitar.

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
A: I would really like to visit Australia as well as Ireland.

Q: What makes Glick unique compared to previous companies where you have worked?
A: Glick is unique in that they go above and beyond in everything they do. It doesn’t matter if you’re an employee, a resident or an external customer, you are treated with dignity and respect. I guess it comes down to integrity, valuing excellence and a strong desire to leave a legacy. The commitment Glick has to social responsibility, not only in their communities but the local community at large, is outstanding and commendable. I have no doubt this inspires other companies to do the same.
