Glick Employee Spotlight: Jennifer Livesay

The Gene B. Glick Company is honored to have such hard-working, dedicated employees and we are proud to recognize these individuals in a monthly employee spotlight!

Q: What is your title at the Gene B. Glick Company?

A: I am an applications services administrator in Glick’s corporate office.

Q: How long have you been with the company?
A: I have been with Glick a little over two years.

Q: What training/education do you have?
A: I was getting my degree at Ball State University in interior design but then I decided about three years in to make a change. I thought residential property management sounded like a realistic trade that I could see myself enjoying for years to come. I ended up majoring in residential property management and minoring in interior design.

Q: How did you make your way into this industry?
A: I actually started working in apartment leasing offices while I was still at Ball State. After graduation, I was recruited by a company in Colorado and continued my leasing office experience out there.

Q: What brought you to Glick? Why did you want to work here?
A: Glick had a great reputation at Ball State and among my fellow classmates. I had always said Glick was my first choice. So, when we moved back to Indiana from Colorado, this was the first and only company I looked at for a new job.

Q: What has kept you here?
A: I love the work I do, as well as my team! The people here are so welcoming and I feel like it’s home.

Q: What do you do in your role?
A: The application services team manages the various software programs that Glick uses for property management operations. YARDI is a well-known example of a program used within our industry. As an administrator, my role is to support the Glick team members on-site at our properties who run into issues with the programs. I help them troubleshoot the problem. Doing this also helps me to identify opportunities for training or retraining.

Q: How do you describe your role to friends and family?
A: It can be difficult to explain all that we do because applications services has its hands in a lot of different things – from operations and accounting to training and more. So, a lot of the time my friends and family end up thinking I work in the IT (information technology) department and I’m okay with that.

Q: Why is your role/the work you do at Glick important?
A: The work I do is vital to the service our Glick team members provide to residents and we take the customer experience seriously at Glick. When there is an issue with one of the software programs, a resident is usually waiting for an answer and the Glick team member on-site often can’t move forward until there is a resolution.

Q: What would surprise people about your role/the work you do?
A: Coming into this position after being on-site in leasing offices for years, I learned that some processes take a lot more time and effort to remedy than I ever would’ve thought.

Q: What part(s) of your job do you like the most?
A: I love it when a customer makes me feel like I saved their day. It makes me so happy!

Q: What has surprised you the most about working at Glick?
A: So many people at Glick have been with the company for decades and that only spiked my curiosity about the company even more!

Q: Where are you from originally?
A: I grew up in a military family and as a result, I have lived in several places. I was born in northern Indiana while my dad was overseas. As a family, we lived in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Virginia Beach, Virginia and North Chicago, Illinois, before we moved back to Indiana when my dad retired from the Navy.

Q: Where do you live now?
A: I currently live in Noblesville, Indiana.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I have three corgis that take up a lot of my time. I love kayaking, hiking, traveling and spending as much time with my husband as I can.

Q: If you won the lottery and didn’t have to worry about money, how would you fill your time (e.g., dream job, hobbies, causes)?
A: I would live on Maui in Hawaii and swim with sea turtles every day!

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
A: Australia, New Zealand and London (I can’t choose just one!).

Q: Do you have a bucket list and if so, what is on it?
A: I want to have investment properties in all of my favorite places, so I can stay in them whenever I want.

Q: Do you live life by any certain motto or philosophy?
A: “In life, you get what you put in. Everything comes back around.”
