Glick Employee Spotlight: Kellan Westover

Q: What is your title at the Gene B. Glick Company?
A: I’m a maintenance technician at Cambridge Square Richmond in Richmond, Indiana.
Q: How long have you been with the company?
A: I’ve been with Glick four years.
Q: What brought you to Glick? Why did you want to work here?
A: When my now supervisor took me on a tour of the property, I knew this was where I wanted to be.
Q: What has kept you with Glick?
A: It is a great company to work for, especially since you feel that hard work is noticed. Also, at the end of the day, I feel good knowing I have been able to help people.
Q: How did you make your way into this industry?
A: I was fortunate to start as a groundskeeper. I learned from hands-on experience and I took advantage of classes offered to me.
Q: What do you do in your role?
A: My role is never the same. I never know what I will be doing be in any given day but that is what makes my role always enjoyable.
Q: Why is your role/the work you do at Glick important?
A: Our residents become like family to me, so keeping their apartments well-maintained is very important to me.
Q: What part(s) of your job do you like the most?
A: I love interacting with the residents and it gives me a great feeling when I can fix a problem for them. Most of our residents at Cambridge Square Richmond are seniors or have disabilities. Most people don’t understand my compassion for all the residents but it is due to my daughter also being disabled. So, I personally know how hard life can be.
Q: What has surprised you the most about working at Glick?
A: I’ve worked for several companies and Glick is the only one that has treated me as a person instead of an employee.
Q: Where are you from originally?
A: I’m originally from Centerville, Indiana.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I like to spend time with my wife and daughter. I’m also a big movie buff.
Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
A: I would like to travel to Hawaii or Alaska, when it is dark all day.
Q: What is one item on your bucket list?
A: I would like to overcome my fear of heights and skydive.
Q: Do you live life by any certain motto or philosophy?
A: Yes, I have two: “Listen to understand and not to respond” and “Don’t be afraid to be yourself.”
