Glick Employee Spotlight: Lauren Adair-Horace

The Gene B. Glick Company is honored to have such hard-working, dedicated employees, and we are proud to recognize these individuals in a monthly employee spotlight!

Q: What is your title at the Gene B. Glick Company?
A: My current title is Property Manager at Cambridge Square Beech Grove.

Q: Have you had any other positions with the company?
A: I started as an Assistant Property Manager (APM) at Woodbridge of Bloomington, and I was also an APM at Carriage House East, where I learned about Section 8 housing.

Q: What brought you to Glick? Why did you want to work here?
A: I had heard great things about the company, and the longevity of a lot of the employees helped me realize it was a great place to work.

Q: What do you do in your role?
A: I work in a one-person office, so you name it, I do it. I process the monthly vouchers, pull monthly reports, process annual recertifications, walk units and complete an occasional maintenance request — working to provide excellent customer service for my 126 elderly or disabled residents.

Q: Why is your role/the work you do at Glick important?
A: I love that we can provide affordable housing to a population/demographic with such a need for housing. I think it’s great when a prospect comes to my community office and asks to rent and finds out we are not a conventional or market rate community. To me, that proves someone really can’t tell the difference between a subsidized versus a tax credit or conventional community. I think that speaks volumes to how Glick continues to maintain our communities, especially since CS Beech Grove is almost 40 years old.

Q: What part(s) of your job do you like the most?
A: Providing an excellent product and customer service to my residents. I love to plan events for them to show them how much we appreciate them as residents.

Q: What has surprised you the most about working at Glick?
A: I would have to say everyone’s willingness to help each other. We as a company really embody that there is no “I” in “Team.”

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I like to spend time with my husband and six-year-old son. We love to travel and spend time outdoors as a family.

Q: What would surprise Glick team members about you?
A: I’m a natural redhead, and I’ve never once dyed, highlighted or permed my hair.

Q: If you won the lottery and didn’t have to worry about money, how would you fill your time (e.g., dream job, hobbies, causes)?
A: I would probably travel the world. I would plan to give back when traveling to disadvantaged countries like India, Africa, Central and South America as well as Southeast Asia. I might also buy a horse; I used to ride English saddle seat and Western, and I love horses.

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
A: I think if I could only choose one place to travel, it would be Fiji or Bora Bora or possibly the Maldives.

Q: Do you live life by any certain motto or philosophy?
A: Everything happens for a reason; you have to take the good with the bad. Life is all about balance.

Q: What makes Glick unique compared to previous companies where you have worked?
A: The support and training they offer their employees; but also the corporate culture. Glick really does strive to make everyone feel like family, and for me that has made all the difference. I plan to continue to work for Glick for many years to come.
