Glick Employee Spotlight: Roberto Govea

The Gene B. Glick Company is honored to have such hard-working, dedicated employees, and we are proud to recognize these individuals in a monthly employee spotlight!

Q: What is your title at the Gene B. Glick Company?
A: Maintenance Technician at Hammond Elderly Apartments

Q: What brought you to Glick? Why did you want to work here?
A: Glick was recommended to me by a friend, who was also an employee and told me how great of a company Glick is and a great place to work.

Q: What has kept you here?
A: My fellow coworkers and the way the company treats and values its employees. I have never worked for a company that shows appreciation of their employees the way Glick does.

Q: How did you make your way into this industry?
A: My grandfather and father were both maintenance workers who taught me the trade as I was growing up, which led me to the career I have today.

Q: What training/education/background did you bring with you?
A: I previously worked for an apartment complex that had 600 units, and I was responsible for the maintenance and overall care of all the units, the surrounding property and its maintenance workers.

Q: What makes Glick unique compared to previous companies where you have worked?
A: The opportunity for advancement; the opportunity to enhance my skills and knowledge through all the different trainings offered; and the idea that Glick wants to see you succeed and will invest in its employees to help them do so

Q: What do you do in your role?
A: Maintenance, work tickets, lawn care, painting, AC repair and floor tiling, among other things

Q: How do you describe your role to friends and family?
A: Surprising — you never know what’s going to happen from day to day!

Q: Why is your role/the work you do at Glick important?
A: My role is important because it ensures the residents at our building live in a safe and comfortable apartment where they don’t have to worry about how a repair is going to get done or who to call to come and fix something in their apartment because we are here for them.

Q: What part(s) of your job do you like the most?
A: Interacting with the residents, most of whom are seniors who share with me their life experiences, which makes me appreciate the opportunities I am given due to the sacrifices and struggles many of them have had to endure to make a better way for the current generation

Q: What has surprised you the most about working at Glick?
A: The support of the company, knowing there is always someone I can call when I am unable to find an answer or someone who can lead me in the right direction to get the job done

Q: Where are you from originally?
A: The south side of Chicago, Illinois

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: Spend time with my family and work on cars

Q: If you won the lottery and didn’t have to worry about money, how would you fill your time (e.g., dream job, hobbies, causes)?
A: I would spend my time working on and rebuilding antique cars and trucks.

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
A: Mexico

Q: Do you live life by any certain motto or philosophy?
A: I take life day by day, am grateful for the little things in life and try to always have a positive attitude.
