Glick Employee Spotlight: Tammi Tertocha

The Gene B. Glick Company is honored to have such hard-working, dedicated employees, and we are proud to recognize these individuals in a monthly employee spotlight!

Q: What is your title at the Gene B. Glick Company?
A: Property Manager at Carriage House Apartments of Decatur

Q: How long have you been with the company?
A: 24 years! WOW — it still shocks even me to say that!

Q: Have you had any other positions with the company?
A: I was hired as the assistant property manager and was promoted to property manager about a year and a half later.

Q: What has kept you at Glick?
A: Our property has gone through realignment so many times in my length of service here, and I have loved every supervisor I have been fortunate to have had. I have the best support system I could ask for, and it goes beyond just my direct supervisor. I feel, no matter what I need assistance or advice on, there is always someone willing to help. The opportunity to have a small numbered team and share the same goal with everyone is also another reason.

Q: What do you do in your role?
A: There is such a wide range of roles a property manager has. Basically, I do my very best to ensure the property is operating smoothly and oversee the daily operations to ensure the continued success of the property and the needs of the staff and residents are met.

Q: Why is your role/the work you do at Glick important?
A: My role is no more important than each person on my team. We each have a purpose and contribute to the overall success of the property in one way or another.

Q: What would surprise people about your role/the work you do?
A: I’m not sure it's a surprise, but after working in this industry for so many years, I have gained a lot of knowledge on repairs, landscaping, toilets, furnaces and air conditioners. It’s great to have this bonus knowledge to apply in my personal life.

Q: What part(s) of your job do you like the most?
A: I can never predict my day. It is always fast paced and challenging, and I’m always learning something new. Plus, I secretly love to work with numbers. I welcome when it comes time each month to work on financials and budget season. When you stop learning, you start dying is what they say. This job brings constant learning.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: With two girls, ages 14 and 12, who are involved in multiple sports, you will find me on the sidelines and/or in a gym most evenings and weekends being their biggest fan. And I wouldn't trade it! I do love to hike, work in my garden, and visit wineries with my girlfriends. And travel!

Q: If you won the lottery and didn’t have to worry about money, how would you fill your time (e.g., dream job, hobbies, causes)?
A: If I won the lottery ... (and you have to play to win) … If I won the lottery, I would travel and make sure my family and extended family were taken care of. I would also LOVE to own and operate a quaint bed and breakfast.

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
A: It would be to get the best view ever of the Northern Lights.

Q: Do you have a bucket list and if so, what is on it?
A: One of my bucket list items is watching the sunrise/sunset on a beach in Hawaii.

Q: Do you live life by any certain motto or philosophy?
A: My mottos change over time and as I age. Right now, my two favorites are “Be present” and “Live like there is no tomorrow.”

Q: What makes Glick unique compared to previous companies where you have worked?
A: I have been with Glick the majority of my adulthood. But in comparison to what I do know about other companies, the difference is the investment Glick makes in its employees and, now with the recent addition of the Glick scholarships, the employees’ families. Glick stands out from any competitor for setting high standards and its dedication to excellence.
