Glick Volunteers with Gleaners Food Bank

Hunger and food insecurity continue to affect nearly every community across America. In 2022, more than 49 million people relied on food assistance from charitable organizations to access affordable, nutritious food. Glick’s commitment to strengthening the quality of life in the communities we serve makes fighting food insecurity a top priority.

This Fall, Glick Cares – our corporate volunteer program – hosted a volunteer event at Gleaners Food Bank in Indianapolis. When volunteer sign-ups were announced, Kurtis Roesler, the Property Manager at Somerset Lakes, jumped on board.

“There are still so many of our fellow Hoosiers, neighbors and residents, who are in need of food to feed not only themselves but their families. As soon as I saw the opportunity to be able to help fight hunger with my Glick team, I knew I wanted to join in on the efforts,” said Roesler.

He joined over 80 Glick team members from our home office and properties around Central Indiana who volunteered at Gleaners Food Bank. Team members helped by assembling “Gleaners 2 Go” boxes, filling them with nourishing, nonperishable food items for individuals and families in need, and sorting through food items to organize donations. Together, the Glick Cares team helped provide 17,810 meals for Central Indiana residents in need.

For some of our team, their time volunteering at Gleaners Food Bank hit home.

“Looking back on the day, it was such an amazing experience to give back and know that we were helping families be able to eat. I have a food pantry at Thompson Village, and it made me feel good to know that I was helping my residents,” said Teonna Branson, Service Coordinator at Thompson Village Apartments.
“The community I live in has a huge need for services, and food is one of them. I work with senior citizens who receive Gleaner food boxes, and knowing that I was able to help them made us all very happy,” said Brent Hybben, Service Coordinator at Cambridge Square of Beech Grove.

Annually, Gleaners Food Bank needs around 20,000 volunteers to help fill their warehouse, food pantries, and more. With the help of volunteers, Gleaners works year-round to fight hunger in the 21 counties they serve, giving more than 100 million meals every year to those in need in central and southeast Indiana. Gleaners is part of Feeding America, a nationwide network of 200 food banks that provides food for more than 46 million people annually.
