Glick Wins ManagInc's 2018 Multifamily Cares Contest

The Gene B. Glick Company believes everyone should have a place to come home to at the end of the day, and people — not buildings — form the heart of the Glick communities.

The Glick commitment to building community and creating opportunity extends far beyond the company’s own philanthropy. It is reflected in a host of corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts that engage Glick employees and encourage them to give back and volunteer.

The Gene B. Glick Company recently won the 2018 Multifamily Cares Contest hosted by ManagInc, shining a spotlight on how the multifamily housing industry gives back to their local communities, heart and soul.

“ManagInc, an organization that focuses on corporate social responsibility solely in the multifamily housing industry, reached out to invite us to apply for the award,” said Glick Philanthropies Community Impact Coordinator Ben Grande. “We were asked to share ‘how much our team cares’ and ‘what our company has done to give back to society.’ The Glick Company does so much positive work in the communities where we have apartment properties that it’s difficult to summarize all that work in an award application.”

Glick’s application focused on our two core CSR programs, Glick Cares and Glick Gives.

Since 2015, Glick employees have volunteered more than 6,000 hours to not-for-profit organizations and causes making a difference in their communities. In addition to donating their time and talent, Glick employees continue to donate their treasure; the Glick Gives Fund at Central Indiana Community Foundation (CICF) has matched nearly $200,000 in employee contributions since 2015.

Glick’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility was certainly enough for those judging the award to stop and take notice. Shortly after applying for the contest, ManagInc identified Glick as one of the top five entries. The finalists were posted online, and online voting was open for five days.

The finalists received nearly 1,500 votes from supporters, and Glick emerged as the company with the most votes.

“The most exciting part of being named the winner of the Multifamily Cares Contest is Glick received the opportunity to direct a grant for two hundred dollars to a nonprofit organization of our choice,” Grande said. “We directed our grant to TeenWorks, an organization very near and dear to Glick. In 1981, Gene B. Glick began Pro 100, a program that provided teens with summer jobs to teach them the importance of self-discipline, a hard day’s work and giving back to the community. Today, TeenWorks continues this founding vision through summer employment, college readiness programs and support services throughout the school year to teens in the Indianapolis and Muncie areas.”

The Glick Company continues expanding their Corporate Social Responsibility programs, rolling out two new CSR initiatives in 2018.

Glick now offers eight hours of paid volunteer time off each year so employees can volunteer at a not-for-profit agency close to their hearts.

Another exciting initiative is our service award grants. Team members reaching a service milestone will be given the opportunity to recommend a charitable grant to a not-for-profit of their choice, in addition to receiving a service award and gift.

“The Glicks’ spirit of giving is contagious,” Grande said. “We continue their efforts to build vibrant places to live, work and play in our communities, and our employees help us achieve those goals each and every day.”
