Volunteer Spotlight - Gleaners Food Bank

At the Gene B. Glick Company, we are committed to strengthening the quality of life and giving back to the communities we call home. As part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, we encourage our team members to give back to their communities through volunteerism.

As part of a Glick Cares event, 45 Glick team members recently volunteered at Gleaners Food Bank. Participants included team members from the Corporate office and various properties, including Arden Woods, Cambridge Square North, Carriage House East, Carriage House Glendale, Cedar Ridge, Colonial Square, Lebanon Manor, Northwood Franklin, Windsor Park, and Woodlake.

The volunteers were split up into two different shifts. As a team, they helped package bags of cereal and were able to assist with packaging over 3,600 meals for families in need. Gleaners' mission is to be a leader in the fight against hunger and distribute food to hungry Hoosiers.

After their time volunteering with Gleaners Food Bank, we caught up with Christina and Daphne to learn more about how volunteering is part of their lives.

How Does Volunteering Impact Your Life?

  • "It makes me feel good to help out." – Christina Wolff
  • "Volunteering provides a sense of purpose, enhances social connection and allows me to contribute positively to our community." – Daphne Hittle

What Does Glick’s VTO Mean to You?

  • "It is a great idea to allow team members to be able to pick where we can volunteer to help others." – Christina Wolff
  • "VTO allows Glick Team members to take paid time off and come together as one and make a difference in our community. It is also a good team building activity. Simply put, acts of good can improve volunteer lives and those of our community." – Daphne Hittle

Are There Other Organizations That You Work with That You Want Others to Know About?

  • "Homeless shelters, American Cancer Society and Rec Centers for children. " – Christina Wolff
  • "I think Ronald McDonald House is one of my favorite places to volunteer. My friends and I love preparing and serving food for families of children affected by childhood diseases. RMH also provides a home away from home that provides comfort, support and resources to families who travel far from their homes for the medical care their children need. My other favorite volunteer activity is the Warren Central High School Class of ‘83 Annual Golf outing. As a class, we host the outing to raise money for the WCHS Golf Team and our Alumni Memorial Scholarship fund, all proceeds raised are donated. This past fall we surpassed donations made in previous years by $700. We donated $1200 to the Warren Central Golf Team in memory of one of our own classmates who passed this past year. He was an outstanding golfer in high school and we were very sad to have lost him. We also donated $850 to the Warren Central Class of ’83 Alumni Scholarship in memory of the other classmates we lost during 2024." – Daphne Hittle
