VTO with Heart – Generations

Area 13 Agency On Aging & Disability

At the Gene B. Glick Company, we are committed to strengthening the quality of life and giving back to the communities we call home. As part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, we encourage our team members to give back to their communities through volunteerism and empower them to do so through our paid volunteer time off (VTO) program. Our ‘VTO with Heart’ series highlights Glick team members using their VTO to volunteer with organizations close to their hearts.

Jana Noblet recently volunteered for Generations Area 13 Agency On Aging & Disability which is located in Vincennes, Indiana. Generations promotes successful aging for individuals in pre-retirement and retirement years. Generations provides information on a wide array of topics including health and fitness, caregiving and legal issues, investment and financial advice, and educational opportunities available through many outreach efforts and programs.

Jana spent her time volunteering at an event called Age Your Way which was held at the Jasper Library in Jasper, Indiana. During her time at the event, Jana helped set up and decorate the tables, put together packets for attendees, helped serve lunch, and helped with cleanup at the end of the event.

Jana chose to volunteer for Generations because they have been a major help to residents in her community. "They have been such a blessing to Jamestown Square Residents. They make care packages during the holidays for those who receive services, they come teach educational classes about healthy eating, do crafts, fall prevention, and talk about Alzheimer's and Dementia."

After her time volunteering for Generations, we caught up with Jana to learn more about how volunteering is part of her life.

How Does Volunteering Impact Your Life?

"Volunteering helps improve my mood, makes me happy that I am helping others, increases my sense of purpose, and reduces stress levels. Volunteering gives me an opportunity to meet new people, make friends, learn new skills, and partner with other resources that benefit individuals in my career."

What Does Glick’s VTO Mean to You?

"I love that Glick offers Volunteer Time Off. I have never worked for a company that values giving back to the community. I feel that volunteering strengthens our community which makes communities stronger by addressing local needs and it helps with making connections to meet new people with interests similar to yours or those that you serve."

Are There Other Organizations That You Work with That You Want Others to Know About?

"I think that the YMCA Bettye J. McCormick Senior Center would be a great place to volunteer for the day. They remodeled their facility through a grant that will accommodate our residents to attend their day programming, stay for lunch for $3.00, and join the Bingo."
