VTO with Heart – Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indy

At the Gene B. Glick Company, we are committed to strengthening the quality of life and giving back to the communities we call home. As part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, we encourage our team members to give back to their communities through volunteerism and empower them to do so through our paid volunteer time off (VTO) program. Our ‘VTO with Heart’ series highlights Glick team members using their VTO to volunteer with organizations close to their hearts.

Sam Miller recently volunteered at one of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indy's sites where she worked on two homes in the Lawrence area. Sam has been involved with Habitat for Humanity since 2022 when she decided to volunteer for the 2022 Glick Women Build. She chose to utilize her VTO to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity again since she wanted to continue supporting the cause, and because of her passion for affordable housing. "It was even better [this time] because I got to volunteer alongside a close friend who shares the same passion. Together, we helped bring two families in Indy closer to their dream of affordable housing."

On the day she volunteered, Sam worked on siding and exterior trim for the two homes. It was a familiar task for her as she had just done exterior trim work during the Glick Women Build during the summer. "Using those skills again felt great, knowing these houses will soon be ready for families to move in."

After her time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, we caught up with Sam to learn more about how volunteering is part of her life.

How Does Volunteering Impact Your Life?

"Volunteering has always been a part of my life. I grew up learning the importance of giving your time, talent, and treasure to help your community. Now, as a parent, I want to set that same example for my son. Volunteering keeps me connected to my neighbors and community, and while I feel I gain so much from the experience, I hope I’m making a positive impact."

What Does Glick’s VTO Mean to You?

"Glick’s CSR initiatives are truly meaningful, and VTO is one of my favorites. It’s not just about having values on paper—at Glick, those values come to life. Our VTO reflects our commitment to social responsibility, empowering employees to give back to causes they care about, all while getting paid during work hours. It’s one of the ways Glick shows we’re invested in our communities and living out our mission."
