VTO with Heart – Helping Neighbors Through The HUB at Carriage House Glendale

Aug 11, 2026

At the Gene B. Glick Company, we are committed to enhancing quality of life for our neighbors and giving back to the communities we call home. As part of that commitment, we encourage our team members to make a difference through volunteerism and empower them to do so through our paid volunteer time off (VTO) program. Our ‘VTO with Heart’ series highlights Glick team members using their VTO to volunteer with organizations close to their hearts.

Led by Glick’s Resident Success Team, The HUB helps connect residents at our Indianapolis-based properties with essential resources like diapers, shoes, nonperishable food, and other everyday necessities. The HUB provides these resources through partnerships with organizations like Midwest Food Bank, Indiana Diaper Bank, and New Shoe Day.

Glick Philanthropy’s Hannah Riffle, Ben Grande, and Isaac Mervis, alongside Digital Media Specialist Haley Lehman, recently volunteered their time with the HUB to help bring in donations for residents. Together, they unloaded and organized five pallets of donated goods, making it easier for Resident Service Coordinators to quickly identify items to distribute throughout their communities.

We caught up with the team to learn more about their volunteer experience and why giving back remains important to them.

Why did you choose to volunteer at the HUB?

“We learned that the Resident Success Team needed volunteers to receive a large donation of food, cleaning supplies, and other donated items. It was rewarding to know these items would go directly to neighbors who need them most, rather than going to waste.

It was a fun way to pitch in while seeing an innovative Glick program and getting to know other team members.” - Hannah

How does volunteering impact your life?

"Whether it’s using VTO or volunteering outside of work, I value opportunities to give back to causes that matter to me. Volunteering adds a strong sense of purpose to my life. Knowing I’m contributing to something bigger than myself makes my days more meaningful. Now that my kids are old enough to volunteer alongside me, it’s been rewarding to share that experience with them, teaching them the importance of giving back and watching them see firsthand the difference they can make.” - Ben

“It is such an honor to give back and help others when possible. Volunteering allows me to connect with all different types of people in my community and provides me with a sense of happiness and fulfillment.” - Haley

Describe what Glick’s Volunteer Time Off (VTO) means to you.

“Glick’s Volunteer Time Off (VTO) shows me that the company truly walks the walk. It’s one thing to say that we care about our communities, but Glick’s VTO actually gives us the space and support to pour into them and affirms that our work extends far beyond our desks. It is a reflection and extension of our values as an organization, and one of the many ways that Glick supports us in showing up for the places where our residents, neighbors, and colleagues call home.” - Isaac

Are there other organizations you like to volunteer at or make impactful contributions to that you would like to mention?

Outside of Glick, Isaac and his partner volunteer as a “Big Couple” to their “Little Brother” through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana. "Being part of his life — and watching him grow, gain confidence, and try new things — has been an incredible reminder of how powerful consistent, positive relationships can be.” - Isaac
